The Michigan Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience Annual Meeting is scheduled for Friday 19 May 2006 on the campus of Michigan State University. The meeting will be held at the Kellogg Center from 8.00am to 5.00pm.

The purpose of the meeting is to bring together research scientists to share their current research during poster sessions and general discussion. Research scientists include faculty and project leaders, research technicians, postdoctoral trainees and graduate students from Michigan universities and colleges and industry as well as clinicians in neurology and related fields. Everyone with interesting research findings is encouraged to submit an abstract and present a poster: students are particularly encouraged to present their research. This setting will provide an appropriate environment for students to prepare for larger, national meetings. We have also invited vendors to exhibit their products and services during the meeting.

The meeting will feature two internationally recognized keynote speakers. Dr Darwin Berg, University of California at San Diego, will discuss recent advances in our understanding of the molecular physiology of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in neurons of the autonomic and central nervous systems. Dr Philip Low, Mayo Clinic Rochester Minnesota, will present his recent research on the pathophysiological basis of diabetic and other autonomic neuropathies.

Registration for the meeting will be $25 for graduate students and undergraduates students and $40 for others. This fee will include continental breakfast, lunch and beverage service during the meeting. If you are interested in attending the meeting, complete the registration form and mail it with a check to the address provided on the registration form.

Your attention is also drawn to the awards given annually by the Michigan Chapter for the best poster presentation by a research technician, the best poster presentation by a graduate student and the best poster presented by an undergraduate student. Graduate students are also encouraged to enter the competition for the Montford F Piercey Award and the Duncan McCarthy Award which are presently annually by the Chapter.
